Zendesk announced on Monday that it has acquired HyperArc, a startup building an AI-first business intelligence platform capable of learning from teams. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Zendesk says it plans to bolster its analytics capabilities with HyperArc’s HyperGraph engine and real-time generative AI-powered insights.
“GenAI is transforming analytics, making it radically easier to derive deep insights from service data,” Shashi Upadhyay, Zendesk’s president of product, engineering, and AI, remarked in a statement. “This acquisition will help Zendesk customers benefit from new GenAI-powered insights and automations…This strategic move positions Zendesk to set a new industry standard in usability, depth of insight, and time to value for organizations of all sizes.”

Founded in 2022 by former Iterable executive Tristan Tao and ex-Salesforce engineering architect Zuye Zheng, HyperArc set out to help teams break free from data silos and ask smarter questions. Zheng, the startup’s chief technology officer, elaborated on the challenge in a September 2024 post (emphasis his):
Useful AI/ML requires 2 main things, a good model and great data.
Over the past years, model improvements have been revolutionary with the introduction of deep learning from LSTMs for forecasting, to non-generative transformers like BERT for classification, to now ubiquitous generative transformers being applied everywhere.
However — for BI — the data that takes these models and their applications from demos and toys to actual efficacy has not changed. We often forget this as the P in GPT, the pre-training, makes the out of the box experience of LLMs relatively convincing, but often not rigorously effective.
The team believed traditional data sources weren’t enough to power effective AI for business intelligence (BI). So they built HyperArc with AI at its core, offering a suite of tools designed to bring context to data tables, streamline note-taking, provide an intelligent analytics agent, and fill the gap with a virtual analyst when a human one isn’t available.
“Our mission has been to turn AI into a true analytical partner—one that learns from your best analysts and delivers value at every step,” Zheng states. “Joining Zendesk means we can bring these next-generation, real-time insights to hundreds of thousands of organizations worldwide, unlocking a new era of customer intelligence.”
Joining Zendesk gives HyperArc a significant advantage in a crowded AI for BI market, offering both credibility and scale that can fast-track adoption of its technology. For Zendesk, the acquisition brings modern, AI-native analytics into its ecosystem, empowering its data-driven customers with deeper, more contextual insights than ever before. Moreover, incorporating HyperGraph into Zendesk’s next-generation analytics tools will make Zendesk’s Resolution Platform more valuable.
According to Crunchbase, HyperArc raised only a $5 million seed round back in August 2022. That investment was from CRV, Orange DAO, Sapphire Sport, Mango Capital, and Merus Capital.
