I’ve blogged a lot about using Twitter and other social media applications/sites for business purposes, so I’m not going to bore you with a lecture. So if you’re looking for detailed advice on what you should do on Twitter for your company, I wouldn’t rely on Julio Ojeda-Zapata‘s latest book “Twitter means business: how microblogging can help or hurt your company“.
Ojeda-Zapata’s book isn’t an advice giver nor does it give statistics on using Twitter. I think that it offers something much better than that. It gives you case studies. Everyone is always wondering how companies are doing online and especially with social media, people are looking to see what their competitors are doing to either mimic or shy away from. Of course, if you’re a fan of Gary Vaynerchuk, you would know his stance on “keeping up with the Jonses” – you shouldn’t. So while you can see what brands like Zappos, Dell, JetBlue, etc are using Twitter, it’s up to you to build a brand on Twitter.
But don’t think it’s all about brands and companies. Regular folks and small businesses are also using Twitter. Don’t miss reading over how a Internet-Video Providers, a Comic-Panel Artist, Candy Purveyor, Las Vegas Casino, iPhone-Software Publisher, and others use the microblogging application. There are plenty of resources and tips listed throughout the book so that should give you some other avenues to explore once you’ve finished reading the book.
With a foreword by Jennifer Leggio, better known as @mediaphyter online, “Twitter means business” is a pretty short book and gets straight to the point. While no sagely advice or tips are abundant in the book, it does give more of a narration.
So if you’re interested in getting yourself or your brand on Twitter, then I suggest you first read “Twitter means business“. Learn what others have done and check out the resources. Afterwards, make your own educated reasoning why you should be using the application and then plan out your strategy. Twitter isn’t something to be messed with. You can really jumpstart your business & brand, but don’t be mistaken, you could also hurt your reputation. Don’t miss reading this one.
